{"id":198,"date":"2008-08-04T17:40:40","date_gmt":"2008-08-04T09:40:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rogerdennis.com\/ideaport\/?p=198"},"modified":"2008-08-04T17:42:56","modified_gmt":"2008-08-04T09:42:56","slug":"china-and-the-world-economy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.rogerdennis.com\/ideaport\/?p=198","title":{"rendered":"A Chinese recession and the World Economy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Although I&#8217;ve been looking around recently, there&#8217;s hardly any discussion about the scenario that China&#8217;s economy could nose dive.\u00a0 The prospect would be interesting to say the least, and would have a dramatic effect on the world economy.\u00a0 However yesterday <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/business\/comment\/hamish-mcrae\/economic-view-the-western-world-must-be-ready-to-react-should-the-chinese-sprint-turn-into-a-fosbury-flop-883620.html\" target=\"_blank\">The Independent published<\/a> a piece looking at the possibility of China slowing down post-Olympics.\u00a0 The most riveting statement was this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The basic point is that Chinese consumers have taken over from those in the US as the main drivers of additional demand in the world economy. [&#8230;] All eyes will be on China over the next month. It will be the first time for most of us in the West that we will have to contemplate a world where China takes over from the US as the largest economy.
