{"id":114,"date":"2007-05-10T10:42:49","date_gmt":"2007-05-10T02:42:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rogerdennis.com\/ideaport\/?p=114"},"modified":"2007-05-10T10:42:49","modified_gmt":"2007-05-10T02:42:49","slug":"intelligence-on-planes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.rogerdennis.com\/ideaport\/?p=114","title":{"rendered":"Intelligence on planes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s a little off topic, but while in London a couple of weeks back I had an interesting chat with <a href=\"http:\/\/interconnected.org\/home\/\">Matt Webb <\/a>about trying to work on planes.<\/p>\n<p>We developed a theory, which basically says that the longer the journey, the more likely you are to end up watching Die Hard 3.  I have called this  &#8211; wait for it &#8211; The Theory of an Airline Passengers Diminishing Intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>I know &#8211; it&#8217;s catchy.<\/p>\n<p>No matter what my intentions are  &#8211; whether it&#8217;s to write the next book chapter, read that interesting paper or write that very cleverly worded email reply &#8211; I always end up watching bad movies after a couple of hours.<\/p>\n<p>My dimishing hierarchy goes something like this :<br \/>\n&#8211; read article that requires serious thought<br \/>\n&#8211; write emails that need some consideration<br \/>\n&#8211; reply to emails that don&#8217;t need consideration<br \/>\n&#8211; try to read the book that I&#8217;ve packed<br \/>\n&#8211; listen to a podcast<\/p>\n<p>By this time I surrender to inflight banality and plug into the movie channel.  And what&#8217;s more, it&#8217;s usually not a good movie I select.
